Part-Time, Teaching-Track Faculty Position in the German Language

The German Studies Program in the USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences invites applications for a part-time, teaching-track instructor pool. This is a pool of part-time instructors or lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. The teaching load of part-time instructors or lecturers can vary from 1 to 3 sections of beginning and/or intermediate German language per semester.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates:

must hold at least a master’s degree in the field of instruction. A PhD in German literature or linguistics is preferred.

possess native-like fluency in German

have prior college level teaching experience

demonstrate excellence in teaching and have expertise in curriculum development

must be committed to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field, including effective use of technology

should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and variety of students with diverse backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates:

should be familiar with ACTFL proficiency guidelines and world readiness standards

show familiarity with a student-centered language teaching methodology

possess expertise in the culture of German-speaking countries with possible emphasis in literature, media, politics, social issues, and popular culture.

The per course rate for this position is $11,000.
