Savannah Technical College is seeking qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable working professionals who enjoy teaching to serve as a Part-Time General Maintenance Instructors in Savannah Technical Collegeās Continuing Education Department. Under guidance of the program director, instructor will teach General Maintenance classes that cover maintenance and repair of the following areas: Interior & Exterior, Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, Appliances, and the requirements set by the department. Applications are being accepted in an on-going basis in effort to establish an instructor pool, and will remain on file for one year.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities.
Ā· Teach general maintenance classes as according to the curriculum delegated by the department Ā· Instructor may coordinate, teach, monitor and assist students on both the classroom-based content and the hands-on application of skills with use of teaching aids or actual equipment. Ā· Instructor must prepare and maintain all required documentation; and ensuring safety procedures are followed to maintain the safety of students and public at all times. Ā· Flexible work schedule hours to include day/evening classes and/or weekend classes.
Minimum Qualifications
Ā· Ā· 4 years of experience in general maintenance within a residential property, including experience in the maintenance and repair in the following areas: Interior & Exterior, Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, Appliances Ā· Current EPA Section 608 Certification required Ā· Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs required. Ā· Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills along with computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications (In addition to Minimum)
Ā· Ā· Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Credential Ā· General Maintenance experience at both a residential and commercial property Ā· Successfully completed prior coursework in the maintenance and repair of the following areas: Interior & Exterior, Electrical, Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, Appliances Ā· Diploma or Associateās Degree in Air Conditioning Technology (or) Five (5) years of work experience in the HVAC field. Ā· Teaching experience at a postsecondary institution or training experience at a company is desirable
Physical Demands
This work requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing ladders, and lifting objects over 50 pounds. A high degree of dexterity is required to use tools and equipment. The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to heat, cold, or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. The ability to distinguish between shades of color when working with electrical wiring is required.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Positions are typically appointed on a course-by-course basis.
