The Utah State University Eastern Athletic Department is seeking a part-time Certified Assistant Athletic Trainer. This position will be responsible for maintaining and operating an in-house athletic training program and providing athletic training needs to all athletic teams. Utah State University Eastern is home to many NJCAA Division I varsity sport teams including: Women’s Volleyball, Men and Women’s Soccer, Men and Women’s Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Cheer, Dance, E-sports, and Rodeo.

Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will be responsible for assisting with walk-in services and providing coverage and care of athletic practices and games. The candidate will help sustain a comprehensive athletic training program, including the addition of student athletic trainers and potential interns. The duties of the Assistant Athletic Trainer include prevention of athletic injuries, recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, and health care administration duties. The Assistant Athletic Trainer serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, and athletes. They ensure that student athletes participate only when physically able and that any physician instructions are understood and followed.

Responsibilities Assesses and administers first aid to injured athletes during practices and sporting events along with the appropriate documentation.After evaluation of all injuries, makes appropriate physician referral when needed.Assists the operation of the athletic training room, ensuring that appropriate levels of supplies are maintained, maximal coverage is provided, and that the training room maintains a professional atmosphere.Communicates effectively with coaches, school administration, parents, athletes, patients, physicians, therapists, as well as other sports medicine team members.Maintains accurate records of all evaluations, referrals, and treatments administered to patients or athletes.Invests in developing strong relationships with: Athletes, Athletic Director and staff, School Administration and Faculty, Coaching Staff, Boosters, and Parents.Also, to include extending working hours to meet the changing needs of the school or sport, to include travel to support away games, and being accessible by phone at appropriate hours for injury questions and consultations.Invests in developing strong relationships with associated physicians and physical therapists.Maintains a clean, safe, and professional environment at the clinics and school. Informs supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.Ensures that proper return to play criteria is met before allowing participation by athlete or patient, ensuring that the best interest of the athlete or patient is always the first priority.Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from accredited CAATE certified athletic training programBOC certification.Basic Life Support for healthcare providers.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrate effectiveness with interpersonal relationships.Licensed or ability to be licensed in the state of Utah

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree from accredited CAATE certified athletic training programOne or more years of experience with NJCAA, or similar experience and years at other college programs

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Effective communicationOrganization and human relation skillAbility to work well in a diverse environmentProficiency with computers and softwareSuccessful completion of background investigation prior to employment Required Documents

Advertised Salary $30 to $40.00 per hour; Commensurate with experience and education ADA

The position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects.  Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Additionally, the work environment can include confined or narrow spaces. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
