Part time Laboratory Research Associate (Temp)

The Position:

Veracyte is seeking exceptional candidates for a temporary part-time role in the Discovery Research team. The Discovery Research team at Veracyte is tasked with advancing scientific discovery and innovation, creating new ways to address unmet clinical need and improving patient outcomes through the creation of high impact diagnostic assays. This role is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on, applied skills in an industry setting and explore what it’s like to work inside an R&D team at an industry-leading diagnostics company. This is an in-person role in South San Francisco.  We anticipate approximately 20 hours of work a week. This is expected to be a 12-month assignment.  

What You’ll do:  

The successful candidate will work as part of a team developing novel NGS diagnostic tests. This includes sample processing from receipt of patient samples, nucleic acid extraction, NGS library preparation, as well as assay optimization and automation. The role is primarily focused on lab execution, however there will be opportunities to be involved in all aspects of science including experimental planning, troubleshooting, and data analysis.  The role will include strong mentorship on the entire scientific process and opportunities to present work to a broad audience.   

Who You Are: Current undergraduate or master's student in a scientific field (Biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cancer biology, etc.)  Previous hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA extraction and quantitation, and PCR.   Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and ability to work effectively as part of a team   Self-motivated, detail-oriented, curious and eager to learn

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

Pay range$24—$27 USD
