NYU’s Washington, DC Academic Center is seeking a local, part-time lecturer to teach an undergraduate course, “Political Communication.” The course will be under the sponsorship of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. The course is expected for Fall 2025 (late August to early December). The class meeting pattern for this 4 credit course will be discussed with qualified applicants during the interview process. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and assessment, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute office hour per instruction day, during which the instructor will be available to meet with students. The instructor role includes all preparation, delivery, and grading. Using Washington, DC as a learning tool (e.g., a guest speaker, an excursion) is an expectation for the course. Courses are to be intellectually challenging in content, and rigorous student assessment is required. Course Description The course will help students to understand the civic purposes of political communication: how it conveys information, allows for civil deliberation, and makes persuasion and mobilization possible in conflicts. The course will make it possible for students to understand the histories and theories of political communication, and to engage in research on the political communications of political actors. In some instances, significant professional expertise and experience in a relevant field may be suitable.
