Part-time lecturer in Accounting
NYU London is currently recruiting for a part-time lecturer to teach Principles of Finanical Accounting, a course sponsored by NYU’s Stern School of Business at NYU. Teaching commences in the autumn term (Sept-Dec 2025). Course Description: This course provides an introduction to the area of financial accounting. It encompasses accounting concepts from the point of view of the corporate investor and business management. Accounting procedures are discussed to facilitate the comprehension of the recording, summarizing, and reporting of business transactions. The basic principles of asset valuation and revenue and cost recognition are presented. Various asset, liability, and capital accounts are studied in detail with emphasis on an analytical and interpretive approach. The area of financial accounting is further analyzed through a discussion of the concepts and underlying financial statement analysis and the exposition of funds flow. Teaching & Learning Objectives Students will develop a number of skills over the duration of the course, in particular, an ability to: ● Teach the methods, rules and processes used to develop financial accounting reports; ● Prepare financial accounting reports; ● Interpret and analyze financial accounting reports and ● Understand where there is discretion in reporting financial results (and the implications) Teaching Information Instructors are encouraged to use a variety of pedagogical techniques. This typically includes a combination of lecture- and discussion-based class sessions, as well as the use of student activities, such as debate exercises and flipped classroom environments. In addition to required midterm and final exams, instructors may use a variety of assignments to assess student comprehension of the course material. These may include online weekly homework, writing assignments, short student presentations and in-class multiple-choice quizzes. Instructors may select the mix that is more appropriate to their teaching methodology. Instructors should be prepared to teach in-person and simultaneously to be prepared for remote instruction should circumstances require it. NYU uses Zoom as its primary platform for remote instruction. Expectation of Hours: This is a 4 credit course. The semesters are 15 weeks long (14 weeks of teaching plus an exam week) and there are 2hrs 30 minutes of classroom instruction each week. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and marking, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute “office hour” at NYU London per week, during which time she or he will be available to meet with students.
