Day in the Life of a PharmacistOrder and receive all medications from appropriate source and conduct inventory of controlled substances as required by P&P. Reconcile variances. Report all variances as required by state and federal regulations.
Accurately prepare medication doses for patients in levels and dosage amounts as prescribed by Medical Director.
Maintain high level of physical security in pharmacy at all times (door locked, safe closed and locked, alarmed when closed).
Answer patient questions relating to pharmacology issues in a confidential, informative matter.
Ensure compliance with all State Board of Pharmacy policies. Maintain all pharmacy permits and licenses as required by State Pharmacy regulation.
Maintain proper inventory and supplies necessary for pharmacy operations to meet patient needs adequately and professionally.
When on the premises, oversee and review work of pharmacy technician and provide counsel to dosing nurses regarding safe administration of doses.
Ensure that filing system is kept up to date.
Ensure that pharmacy dispensing equipment is kept clean and in good operating condition. Ensure that back-up pump is on site and ready for use. Monitor accuracy of pump and take unit out of service when pump accuracy falls outside of appropriate limits.
Utilize appropriate sink for cleaning of pharmacy dispensing equipment.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of pharmacy and supplies. Ensure that proper medical waste procedures are in use for any medical waste generated by activities of pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
Ensure smooth workflow.

Education and Experience requirementsThe pharmacist must meet state-defined minimum licensure, education, and experience requirements.
