Part-Time Research Methods Lecturer in Education

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Department of Education at UCLA seeks applications for a part-time lecturer to teach within the Department of Education’s undergraduate program. Course(s) may include the following, and the lecturer may also be assigned additional courses according to the instructional needs in the department and in conformity with departmental lecturer workload policies:

EDUC 35: “Introduction to Inquiry and Research in Education” Lecture, two hours; Discussion, two hours. The course is an introduction to empirical and analytical educational research. It provides an overview of different methods of conceptualizing inquiry and gathering evidence, including qualitative approaches (e.g., semi-structured interviews, ethnographies, case studies), quantitative approaches (e.g., descriptive, correlation, experimental, survey), and multiple/mixed methods, . The course lectures, readings, and assignments give initial exposure to data gathering and analysis within these multiple methods of inquiry and research (including basic data processing and analysis using the R statistical software), along with the ethics of conducting research in the social sciences, and norms of conducting and reporting research in the field of education. It is intended for undergraduate students interested in learning how to find, interpret, and evaluate educational research, and as an introduction to more advanced courses in quantitative or qualitative research methods.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include lecturing, conducting regularly scheduled office hours, and the writing and grading of assignments and exams.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A doctorate in Education or related discipline is required for undergraduate courses by date of hire.

SALARY RANGE:
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 15. The salary range for this position is $68,247 - $81,492.
