Part-time Veterans Upward Bound Outreach Counselor
Location: Bowling Green, KY Category: Staff Posted On: Wed Oct 23 2024 Job Description: Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a federal TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education, to help U.S. military Veterans enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The Outreach Counselor, in close collaboration with the Director and Academic Coordinator, establishes relationships with Veteran Service, Social Service and educational organizations to promote the Veterans Upward Bound Project and outreach to potential Veteran clients. Conducts initial assessments with Veteran clients to determine project eligibility and personal goals. Collects eligibility documentation, records demographic data in project data base (BLUMEN) and offers Veterans available services. VUB is a non-profit program serving Veterans from 12 counties surrounding Bowling Green and Fort Knox. This is a grant funded position. Continuation is dependent upon funding/need. Outreach and Recruitment Activities: + Recruitment of VUB participants via tabling events, phone calls, workshops, and information sessions + Develop connections with local and regional organizations for collaborative projects to support Veterans + Connect with local industries and businesses to promote continuing education for Veteran populations + Assist with social media campaigns to promote VUB services Academic Advising/Counseling + Provide participants with information on college application and enrollment processes + Assist participants with career/major exploration + Assist with financial aid counseling, FAFSA completion, and military education benefits + Provide participants with college preparation activities geared toward academic success Job Requirements: + Associate's degree + Kentucky driver's license + Ability to lift 30 lbs + Must be able to travel with Veterans Upward Bound twelve counties area of operations.
