Parts / Warehouse Support Worker - Fleet
Position Title: Parts / Warehouse Support Worker - Fleet Job Description: This position will report to the Warehouse Supervisor and will have working knowledge of automobiles and auto parts, bar code systems and scanners. Incumbents will assist all customers in selecting required parts in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner. Will also be responsible for receiving and issuing parts, equipment and supplies. Assist in tracking and maintaining inventory levels using Fleet Management software and/or manual inventory system for all Salt Lake City Divisions. Assists Fleet personnel in transporting vehicle and equipment. Must be available for callouts and standbys 24 hours a day during snow removal and various Fleet emergencies. About the Postion: This position supports the Warehouse Supervisor in managing auto parts and inventory for Salt Lake City’s fleet vehicles. Responsibilities include assisting customers with parts selection, tracking inventory using Fleet Management software, and ensuring timely orders from vendors to minimize vehicle downtime. The role involves receiving, verifying, and organizing stock, maintaining accurate records, and operating equipment like forklifts and barcode scanners. Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills are essential. About the Team: The Public Services Fleet Division is an internal service that maintains and repairs City vehicles, equipment, and machinery. These range from Police and Fire vehicles, snowplows and road construction equipment, to the loaner electric vehicles used by City employees. Applicants for roles in the Fleet Division can expect to directly provide or support the skilled mechanics or procurement processes that it takes to keep the City’s vehicles and equipment moving and operating safely. This position is eligible for full city benefits, including: + Health Insurance (95% of premium paid by city) + Dental, Vision and Life Insurance + Paid vacation and personal leave + Six weeks of paid parental leave from day 1 of employment + Retirement contributions toward a pension plan and/or 401(k) + A robust Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) + Up to $4,000 tuition reimbursement annually + Discounted supplemental benefits like pet insurance and legal services Key Responsibilities: + Use Fleet software and online catalogs to look up and identify parts needed to repair Fleet vehicles such as (Fire apparatus, Dump Trucks, Labrie, Freightliner, International, Peterbilt, John Deere, Kubota and others). + Assist fleet technicians by providing superior customer service, communicating in a respectful and courteous manner. + Work with contracted and non-contracted vendors to obtain the best price and fill parts orders as fast as possible to minimize fleet downtime. + Responsible for tracking all parts orders to maintain the earliest delivery dates. Will be responsible for receiving orders to ensure accuracy of the quantity and quality ordered. + Maintain organized records of parts request from technicians. Keep accurate and updated notes on work orders in Fleet management software. + Familiar with inventory cycle counts and other inventory control processes. Will assist in maintaining electronic inventory system using bar code labels, to manage current inventory and orders. Assist the warehouse manager in reconciliating discrepancies in stockroom inventory. + Issues needed parts by billing parts and shop supplies to work orders in fleet management software. + Operates computers, printers, scanners to perform daily duties. + Receive and verify incoming stock orders to check for discrepancies and make sure all orders are completed before closing PO. Put way stock in appropriate bin location in the fleet warehouse. Operates forklift, pallet jack and hand trucks to unload and load supplies. Assigns bin location for new inventory items in fleet management software. Responsible for shipping items to other departments as needed. + Responsible for maintaining a clean workspace as well as the warehouse. This includes sweeping as needed and taking trash to the recycling bin or trash can to keep floors free from debris. This helps ensure the safety of all warehouse employees. + May be asked to drive city vehicle to pick up parts from vendors as needed. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: + High school graduate, plus zero to two (2) years paid experience in customer service, warehouse operations, or a related field. + Proficient in computer applications and software packages related to parts, products, supplies, etc. + Ability to identify automobile and truck parts by name and number. Ability to reference and cross-reference parts in a parts manual. + Ability to accurately maintain detailed records and filing systems, perform basic mathematical skills, data entry and operate calculators or adding machines. + Must be able to lift 40 pounds and handle items of at least 75 pounds using pallet jacks or forklifts. + Possession of valid Utah Drivers License or driving privilege card. + Efficient oral and written communicate skills. + Ability to relate well with co-workers, supervisors, vendors and the general public. Preferred Qualifications: + Prior experience with shipping and receiving, ordering products, materials handling, inventory distribution, and parts delivery. + Knowledge of automobile and truck parts. Working Conditions: + Moderate-to-heavy physical activity. Required to push, pull (over 75lbs.) weight. Difficult working positions, intermittent standing, walking or sitting. Exposure to heights including ladders over 10 ft. + Exposure to disagreeable elements such as heat, cold, dampness, noise, and fumes. + May encounter potential occupational hazards due to exposure to chemical agents (thinners, paints, pesticides, oils, solvents, etc.) and biohazards (both treated and untreated sewage residues on tools and equipment). + Some exposure to stress as a result of human behavior. + Non-traditional working hours may be required during snowstorms, other weather conditions and other Fleet related emergencies, and customer schedules. Subject to callback and extended work hours. During snow removal season, on-call 24 hours a day.
