Position Summary: JMT is seeking a Party Chief- Field Surveys to join their Team in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing surveying and mapping duties, under the direction of a Professional Licensed Surveyor, to obtain data used for design, boundary location, mining, or other purposes. They may assist with calculations for CAD file production and assist in creating plats from source data, such as surveying notes, aerial photography, satellite data, or other maps to show topographical features, political boundaries, and other features. They also may verify accuracy and completeness of survey projects. This position works closely with Land Surveyor creating CAD files and plats for the design of construction projects for various types of transportation, energy, and civil/site projects including, but not limited to, the following: roadways, bridges, trails, pipelines, electrical facilities. The position will also be required to work closely with land survey crews in the preparation of topographic and boundary surveys as well as construction stake-out and as-built surveys.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Responsible for safety of self and field crew. Position will hold at a minimum a brief daily field safety meeting with crew and complete forms. Reviews project specifications and confers with surveyor concerning assistance required such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports Research Deeds and Plats, look for evidence of previous boundaries, and assist with the analysis of the data to determine the location of boundary lines Leads and conducts work in the field with 1-3 man crew, conducting and completing assignments or portions of a large and diverse projects while organizing field operations and collecting data to ensure efficacy and accuracy Collect survey data measuring the shape, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features for use in performing computations and computer-aided drafting Report the results of surveys, verify the accuracy of data, and assist with the preparation of plots, maps, and reports Candidate must Understand the use of Robotic Total Stations, Global Positioning System (GPS), Data Collectors, laptops, and computer software for surveying Performs non-routine assignments involving substantial variety and complexity Performs supervisory responsibilities on a job specific basis
