**The Opportunity**
This position works out of our São Paulo, Michigan Site location in Brazil, in the Legal (General Council) regional organization.
**What You’ll Do**
+ Manage patent activities at country and sub-regional levels in LATAM, and occasionally on cross-regional and/or global level
+ Advise Country and Regional management and other stakeholders on patent-related strategies for pharmaceutical products, including in-licensing and launch
+ Responsible for supporting Pharmaceutical business’ strategic objectives, particularly in the areas of first-to-market generics, biosimilars, and complex generics.
+ The role is critical to strengthening patent strategies and ensuring business growth through effective legal risk management and proactive patent support.
+ Perform core and complex patent activities, e.g. freedom to operate analysis, product & launch strategies, patent due diligences for in-licensed pharmaceutical products, IP contract terms, patentability analysis, patent drafting and prosecution
+ Apply expertise in national patent law and practice and working knowledge of Latin America Countries, specially Brazil and Mexico patent law and practice
+ Apply knowledge of patent and other exclusivities in strategically supporting biosimilar product launches in Abbott Pharmaceutical markets
+ Advise business partners, including, foster strong working relationships with internal clients and provide sound, practical, and responsive support
+ Anticipate, identify, and manage risk effectively to resolve a variety of complex issues relating to patents, patent licensing, pharmaceutical development, regulatory matters
**Qualifications / Experiences**
+ Possess pharmaceutical industry knowledge, especially in the areas of licensing, acquisitions, product launches. Knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development also beneficial.
+ Experience of project leadership; working in cross-functional teams, and advising the business on generic/differentiated generic product development and launches
+ Experience of working within a matrix organization, management interaction, healthcare industry/environment
+ Experience working with LATAM strongly preferred
+ Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and articulate recommendations and options clearly and concisely to a variety of business partners
+ Ability to work in a diverse & international team, team player
+ Education: Attorney, Desirable Scientific Degree BA, BSc, PhD or equivalent
+ Fluency in English, bilingual preferred
+ Travel: ~25%
