PATENT TECHNICAL WRITER

 

The Ionis patent group seeks a Patent Technical Writer to assist in drafting patent applications and in providing technical support to patent attorneys and agents. Responsibilities will be related to Ionis’ therapeutic pipeline and antisense drug platform including, but not limited to, drug products, nucleoside chemistry, process chemistry, and core antisense technology. Specific responsibilities include:

Working collaboratively with patent agents, patent attorneys, and support staff to assist in the preparation of chemistry and biology focused patent applications Collecting and reviewing synthetic schemes, experimental protocols and resulting data, literature and other information; and drafting/editing such material for inclusion in patent applications Conferring with scientists and searching databases (including public databases and internal bioinformatics platform) using a variety of search tools to obtain data and information pertinent to the drafting of patent applications Communicating scientific material to internal stakeholders including the legal team

REQUIREMENTS:

Advanced degree with emphasis in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field OR equivalent experience in industry At least 2 years of experience in patent technical writing OR scientific publication record (writing sample upon request). Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Proficiency in Chemdraw is essential Proficiency in SciFinder/SciFinderN is highly desirable Some knowledge of molecular biology, CRISPR technology, pharmacology, and/or genetic disorders is desirable Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail are essential Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple matters, and complete projects in a timely manner
