Oregon Health & Science University is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon's only public academic health center. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has a varied and challenging caseload. The surgical pathology lab processes over 43,000 surgical specimens per year. The Department of Pathology has a collegial faculty, AP/CP residency program, a post-sophomore fellowship program, and five post-graduate fellowship programs. We are supported by excellent molecular genetic laboratories and a state-of-the-art core laboratory. OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities and is home to the Knight Cancer Institute, an international leader in research and cancer treatment.
Function/Duties of PositionManage tissue handling and most other activities in the gross pathology facilities in Surgical Pathology; assume varied responsibilities for gross dissection, description and case management; ensure that most urgent cases are handled first and special studies are properly handled; maintain tissue banking and databases, coordinate with study coordinators, operating rooms and Biolibrary and Knight Tissue Bank lab; direct maintenance and technical operations of frozen sections areas; provide instruction, training and supervision to residents, student fellows, and PA students in gross dissection, dictation, frozen section preparation and gross pathology; provide information about gross specimens to pathologists as needed; and perform other activities, as needed.
Required QualificationsQualified applicants will have graduated from an AAPA certified program and have passed the ASCP certification test. Strong candidates will also demonstrate an aptitude for teaching, excellent professional interpersonal and communication skills, and competency in current laboratory and office technology.
