Summary:
Patient Account Representative is responsible for patient account management including coding, claims submission, payment posting, issuance of refunds, payer interaction, denial management and other tasks as assigned related to the revenue cycle.
Responsibilities:
+ Performs quality control/maintenance/Troubleshooting for procedures and processes.
+ Reviews and evaluates billing or payment postings
+ Investigates problems and takes appropriate corrective action
+ Advises supervisor of any suspected system deficiencies.
+ Successfully completes iCare program and reads required safety and compliance manuals.
+ Completes mandatory training, reads all required policy/procedure books yearly.
+ Satisfactorily processes patient demographic, insurance and testing information to accurately process a claim, post payments to patients' accounts, and/or solve any rejected or denied claim issues. Also does unpaid claims follow-up, if required.
+ Evaluates requisitions for appropriateness of billing type and test requested.
+ Follows all billing protocols, while making a minimum amount of errors.
+ Enters data into system completely and accurately.
+ Verify any questionable requisition information with ordering physician or ancillary department and initiate any corrections. This includes any follow-up necessary to comply with “medical necessity†requirements.
+ Calls physician's office to obtain the diagnosis, symptom or sign if none is indicated on the requisition.
+ Properly use the "GA" modifier for Medicare claims for tests that have a completed "ABN".
+ Participates in Billing Functions/Projects
+ Volunteers for projects.
+ Acts as a resource for less senior staff.
+ Assists supervisor in directing patient account staff on new procedures, training and communication.
