Patient Care Assistant

Regions Hospital is hiring a compassionate, collaborative, and committed patient care assistant who is driven to provide excellent care to our patients Birth Center! When you start your career as a Patient Care Assistant you will receive 2-3 weeks of training with our nursing education to learn more about our electronic health system, hospital safety, disengagement skills and restraints, and unlicensed assistive partner skills. Being a part of the nursing team at Regions means you will use your technical and people skills to positively impact the type of care our patients receive and overall experience. 

As a patient care assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the patient with activities of daily living (ADLs), providing patient care treatments which include but are not limited to, discontinuing IVs, restraint monitoring, and collecting patient vitals, weights, and intake & output all in a safe, timely, and effective matter. This position regularly collects specimens such as urine, stool, and finger stick blood glucose at the direction of the nurse. The patient care assistant responds to patient call lights and requests, communicates with patients and visitors, and assist the nurses with procedures as requested. This position also documents and charts in our electronic health system. 

Work Schedule/FTE: .5 FTE (20 hours a week) working days (7am-3:30pm) and evenings (3pm-11:30pm). This position requires you work every other weekend and holiday.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) training program required – certification preferred 

Or 

Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (6 months at a minimum of 0.5 FTE)

Or 

Completion of one clinical rotation in a RN or LPN program within the past 12 months

Or 

Experience as an Emergency room Technician (minimum of 6 months at a .5 FTE and has occurred within last 5 years) 

And

A current Basic Life Support CPR certification from either the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five years.

Preferred Qualifications:

High school degree of equivalent  Prior experience in acute care or hospital setting Nursing assistant certification Proficiency using Electronic Health Record (EPIC) Excellent written and verbal communication skills
