Position Summary / Career Interest:The PCA Intern Program, beginning in February 2025, is an opportunity for individuals who want to gain hands-on patient care experience without needing a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) licensure. This is a great way for individuals to start a career in healthcare!!!

Program Details:
• Start Date: February 10, 2025
• Shift Availability: Full-time positions available for both Days (7 a.m. - 7 p.m.) and Nights (7 p.m. - 7 a.m.), with limited availability for Day shifts.
• Program Duration: total 6 months: 3 weeks classroom training on the DAY shift, followed with 4-5 weeks on the job preceptor led orientation, and then 3 months independent working experience on an unit

Program Goals:

Interns in the Health Care Gold Standard Program will:
• Gain training in basic nursing skills, safety protocols, and infection control.
• Learn to document tasks electronically or as directed.
• Be trained to notify RNs of patient condition changes, pain, and other needs.
• Interns must pass a knowledge assessment and techniques validation.

Eligibility Requirements:
1. No Healthcare Experience Required (Preference for candidates with healthcare experience).
2. Education: High school diploma or GED and basic computer skills.
3. No Concurrent Enrollment: Candidates cannot be enrolled in any other educational programs.
4. For Internal Candidates: Must have worked in their current role for at least six months without any active disciplinary actions within the last six months.

Responsibilities and Essential Job FunctionsReceives training in providing basic nursing skills, such as taking vital signs and pulse oximetry; fingerstick blood glucose, ADLs, recording intake and output, collecting urine, stool, sputum specimens, apply/remove compression hose, SCDs etc., emptying drains, urinary catheters, NG tubes, and ostomies. Receives training in how to document all tasks, I&O, percentage of meals eaten, etc., in O2. Learns the importance of maintaining a neat, clutter free and clean patient room and work environment. Receives training in maintaining a safe patient environment that includes High Fall Risk interventions as appropriate for high fall risk patients. This includes but is not limited to hourly rounds, promptly answering call lights in person promptly for all patients on the unit, and how to reinforce patient/family education regarding fall and safety precautions. Receives instruction in proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles. Learns the importance of promptly notifying the RN of patient changes in vital signs from baseline or expected result, in mental status or condition, any breakdown in skin integrity or redness of skin, patient reports of pain, other patient needs, concerns or issues. Receives training in care for the patient in restraints, including ROM and fluids/toileting, and reorienting confused patients. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Graduate Completion of the Gold Standard Program within 3 weeks of hire. Completion of the Knowledge Assessment and Skills & Technique Validation after completion of Gold Standard Program
Required Licensure and CertificationBasic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
