Responsibilities
Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning Functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests

Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staffMonitors and records vital signsAssists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needsAccurately measures, records, and reports intake and outputObtains and records daily weightPerforms blood glucose testing using blood glucose meterReports changes in patient’s status promptly to RNPerforms as patient care companion when neededAssists in the admission, transfer and discharge processPerforms unit housekeeping needsActs as a runner/transporterChecks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnelUpdates assigned bed statusMaintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms, call lights, telephones and alerting the correct personKeeps patient environment clean, Performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, no food or drink at the workstation, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautionsCommunicates with patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional mannerActs as receptionist for the unit; has limited use of the hospital information systems according to hospital policy dependent on the need of the unit.
