Summary
The Patient Care Tech, Ambulatory is responsible for the efficient daily operation and patient flow within perioperative services. This includes all clinical encounters with patients and their families, facilitation of clinical/surgical communication among providers, staff, patients and family. All surgery center staff promotes financial viability through efficient use of resources and time to deliver quality surgical care. The surgery center team is responsible to promote regulatory compliance requirements and have a passion for constantly seeking better ways to deliver high quality care and to enhance our efficient use of resources for ambulatory surgery patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care Models and encourages high standards of courtesy, honesty, integrity, trust, openness and respect for others. Keeps patient family members informed as it relates to patient care, always maintaining confidentiality. Obtains vital signs, height and weight per facility policy. Adjusts surgical schedule to maximize efficient utilization of operating rooms. Initiate patient encounter in pre-op area providing patient and family education, surgical gown and initiates Universal Protocol’s pre-verification process. Performs urine pregnancy test according to facility policy and anesthesia protocol. Documents appropriately. Respond to telephone requests from patients and/or caregivers in a timely manner. Obtain and assemble all required documents for the medical record the day prior to surgery. Competent to obtain patient histories, medical information and medication lists. Retrieve diagnostic results from all area labs. Enter required data for lithotripsy charges. Prepare and maintain spreadsheets to verify accuracy with OR manager and submit totals. Maintain accuracy when entering information regarding specimen collection for pathology. Discontinue IV therapy and assess patients for and document appropriately their input and output. Discharge patients safely adhering to physician’s orders regarding positioning and/or weight bearing restrictions from ASC to their vehicle. Responsible to inventory, maintain and order supplies as needed to care for the surgical patient, patient care nourishments and medical records forms. Stock patient care rooms, perioperative supply room, linen carts, blanket warmers, IV carts. Supports administrative and clinical requirements to achieve and maintain compliance with federal certification, state licensure and accreditation, specific to ASC’s. Promotes documentation of supporting efforts. Assist in audits and collection of data to ensure compliance. Promotes patient safety using patient identifiers, ensuring side rails are up and call light is within reach. Initiates timely emergency measures as appropriate according to role responsibilities. Enters necessary testing orders (labs, EKG, X-ray) accurately and timely. Data entry of patient tracking during patient’s operative course at the CRSCVB Employ sterile technique and assist with ESI procedures. Demonstrates responsibility for efficient utilization of products, supplies, equipment and time to ensure timely completion of duties and to promote financial viability through provision of services. Able to fill in the roles and responsibilities of the surgical scheduler. Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers. Maintains accountability for facility communication. Maintains accountability for communication with physician offices, area labs and community services. Interact with others in a positive, respectful and considerate manner. Answers telephone professionally and timely with the appropriate greeting and identification. Effectively communicates with all patient populations based on their age and developmental needs. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Provides a calm, reassuring atmosphere for the patient, significant others, and family. Effectively relates and customer input or feedback with regard to customer service or patient complaint to the Charge Nurse, appropriate Manager, Clinical Director, or Risk Manager. Meets all staff meeting and in-service participation requirements. Maintains professional development through seminars, work-shops, conferences or professional affiliations. Completes all mandatory HLC courses, reading of assigned articles and written tests in a timely manner. Seeks assistance if unfamiliar with a particular skill or procedure. Adheres to Time and Attendance Policy. Follows Dress Code. Adheres to and promotes compliance with Infection Control Prevention policies and procedures. Makes self available to others when needed and demonstrates flexibility with staffing and scheduling to ensure safe patient care Responds positively to change Participates in CRSCVB committees or work groups to arrive at problem solving solutions. Organizes and reprioritizes work based on patient needs, available resources and any other necessary requirements. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse or Management. Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education: N/A
Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in ambulatory surgery, patient care position or related field.

Certification from an approved Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant Program
BLS Certification required
