Responsibilities:Under the direction of a licensed clinical staff member, the Patient Care Tech 2 (PCT2) provides basic patient care, clerical support and heart rhythm monitoring using defined procedures and standards in accordance with the goals of the unit and the philosophy of Community Medical Centers (CMC). Performs and assists with elemental aspects of patient care such as nutrition, bed scale weights, intake/output (I/O), taking vital signs, monitoring heart rhythm patterns, etc. in coordination with the patient care team. Assists licensed clinical staff as needed with direct patient care and provides administrative and office management support to the unit(s). Serves as a centralized focus of administration, information and communication. Accountabilities 1. Under the direction of the RN/LVN/RTT delivers basic patient care. Performs and assists with elemental aspects of patient care such as bed scale weights, I/O, hygiene, dressing, turning and ambulation. Safely performs/assists with inpatient lifts/transfers, moves, positioning and ambulation in coordination with the patient care team.2. Records vital signs, height, weight and I/O. Collects and records data as assigned and reports information to RN/RTT.3. Recognizes, communicates and documents changes in patient's condition either emergent or in response to patient care. Differentiates between lethal and non-lethal arrhythmias and notifies the RN promptly of any arrhythmias.4. Interacts with healthcare team members to support and reinforce patient/family teaching plan.5. Places ECGs as required. Observes, monitors, reviews and documents cardiac arrhythmias, artifact, leads off, proper lead placement and subtle changes in cardiac rhythm. Uses calipers to measure rate and ECG intervals, analyzes heart rhythms and records information in patient’s chart.6. Responds to requests and makes rounds at designated stations on an on-going basis throughout assigned shift.7. Answers unit call lights promptly and responds to patient needs accordingly or communicates patient needs to appropriate member of healthcare team.8. Receives report from RN/LVN/RTT upon arrival for assigned shift and be aware of each patient’s special needs and requirements utilizing resources cost effectively.9. Secures patient belongings and documents on appropriate forms. Assures that each patient has necessary care items readily available and maintains a safe, clean patient care environment.10. Performs clerical duties, including ordering and stocking supplies and forms, answering and directing phone calls, and greeting visitors. Advises and assists in understanding the hospital, its rules and services, gives directions, provides factual information and makes guests comfortable while waiting.11. Maintains charts, files materials such as care plans and lab reports. Thins charts according to established time frames and procedures.12. Reports equipment malfunction and removes equipment from service as needed.13. Manages data, such as that required for census management and order entry. Maintains pertinent records, checks records for completeness and enters data into appropriate systems.14. Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Education• High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required• Successful completion of one of the following is requiredo Obtain a diploma/certificate from an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) programo Obtain a diploma/certificate from an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programo Obtain a diploma/certificate from an accredited Paramedic programo Nursing Fundamental courses from an accredited clinical RN or LVN program (typically done in the 1st semester)o Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia Recognition or ECG interpretation course required Experience• 1 year of relevant healthcare experience required• 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital preferred Licenses and Certifications• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required• One of the following is requiredo CNA - State of California Certified Nursing Assistant Certification (active or inactive status is acceptable)o EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (active or inactive status is acceptable)o AEMT - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (active or inactive status is acceptable)o PARAMEDICC - Paramedic Certification issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (active or inactive status is acceptable)o RN or LVN Student/Graduate CHS HealthStream Course• ECG - ECG Rhythm Exam Non-Clinical (Administered by CHS) required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position Disclaimer:• Pay ranges listed are an estimate and subject to change.
