Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Patient Care Technician will assist in patient monitoring, patient care, clerical & receptionist duties, and unit coordination. Direct patient care is done under the direction of the RN and within the scope of sound professional nursing practice to be delegated. They will also perform other assigned duties for which they have been specifically trained.
Qualifications:
A. Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. CPR through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire. One year of phlebotomy experience in a CAP certified hospital laboratory preferred. If no previous phlebotomy training, then employee must complete on the job phlebotomy training and competency with MCH lab within 3 months of hire.
Any of the following also meet phlebotomy training requirements:
EMT Medical Assistant Completion of 2nd Semester Nursing program.B. Training and Experience:
Completion of MCH phlebotomy competency within 3 months of hire or proof of prior on the job phlebotomy training required if employee does not have EMT, Medical Assistant or Completion of 2nd semester nursing program. Must successfully complete computer training and EKG class. Knowledge of some medical and technical terminology and hospital policies and procedures. These skills must be completed within 1 year of hire.
