UPMC Hamot is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join the MICU!

This position is full-time, 12-hour rotating day/night shifts. Occasional weekends and holidays required.

At least one year of previous patient care technician experience required.

Title and Salary are determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:

Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily activities. Supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Reports patient status changes to the RN. Performs core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care. Completes at least four additional tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal. Reports equipment malfunctions and maintains effective communication with other departments. Contributes to unit activities: responds to call lights and telephones, passes meal trays, transports patients. Receives feedback constructively, identifies learning needs, and participates in self-review. Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, manages patient restraints per protocol. Communicates clearly with the healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, supports workplace safety. Adheres to all policies and procedures, documents in medical records, completes clerical functions. Supports department projects and quality initiatives. Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills as needed: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
