Job Summary: The Patient Care Tech I assists the nursing staff by performing assigned duties for patients and staff under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. The Patient Care Tech I duties include, but are not limited to, secretarial functions and NA I skills.

Minimum Requirements: High school graduate or equivalency; or completion of third year in the AA Early College Program of a community college and provide transcripts to HR. Nurses Aide I certificate listed with the North Carolina Department of Facilities Services. Some understanding of medical terminology. At least one year of experience in an acute care setting, either as a unit secretary or as a Nurse Aide I preferred. Able to organize confidential clerical responsibilities and patient care, maintaining workflow despite interruptions and changing priorities. Able to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper channels of communication. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit(s). The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/ area’s/ department’s policies and procedures. Maintain current BLS certification.
