The Lead Patient Care Tech will work in a supportive role performing patient related services under the direction of the Registered Nurse with an emphasis on the technical skills related to the unit-based populations across the life span.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred. 3 or more years of experience required; at least 18 months with Ellis. Other applicable leadership positions maybe considered with DON/CNO approval. Previous experience with Nursing Unit operations and medical terminology required. Precepting class required Ability to train other preceptors. Completion of one year of college in an applicable or related area. College may be substituted by the following: Minimum of one-year pertinent work experience in a health care setting. Life experience, which has enabled the development of exceptional skills in the area of interpersonal relationships, communication. Example: foster care provider or volunteer work. Participate in the PCT/Tech committee, WPV committee, or DEI committee, celebration, UBS, recruitment and retention, safety or other committee as designated by your supervisor 75% of the time. One or more of the following required: Actively training to become an RN or LPN, currently enrolled in nursing school, or currently a CNA. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Computer skills and documentation skills required. CNA or Home Health Aide certification preferred. Certified in monitor room and EKG required within one year of accepting the position. Internal prospects: Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and ability to assist as directed in service recovery efforts. Internal prospects: Attends 95% or better of all scheduled shifts. Internal prospects: Must take a lead role in departmental process or procedure changes related to policies, technology, environment, behavior or people. Must be compliant with all educational and institutional policies and procedures. Must have no disciplinary infractions in the last 12 months. Must have a performance evaluation or (90 probationary) evaluation of “Meets” or better. Participate upon request in a recruitment and or retention activity up to 2 times per calendar year.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Consistently demonstrates an awareness of maintaining both physical and professional boundaries when interacting with patients/families. Functions as a role model/coach by demonstrating appropriate social skills and behaviors. Assists in the application of the hypo/hyperthermia blanket. Assembles traction equipment and check existing equipment daily. Assists patient with pre-existing exercise program, performs range of motion. Collects specimens, including routine urinalysis, midstream urine, stool specimens and blood. Performs venipunctures according to lab procedures. Performs ancillary blood glucose monitoring. Assists nursing staff with oral care and bed bath. Aids with bedpan, urinal, commode, and bathroom. Documents patient care activities and provides verbal report to next shift lead. Measures and records intake and output, including all drainage tubes/devices. Monitors tubing for expiration date and checks intravenous bag for fluid levels. Assists with patient feeding. Assists with patient transport including admission, discharge, and transfer as well as patient admission. Obtains and records patient weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. Maintains high visibility on the unit and assists patients/visitors as needed. Supervises patients as per individual assignments and performs other unit tasks as necessitated by unit, such as hourly rounding, logs, charting, communication between shifts and staff. Independently seeks appropriate resources as needed and integrates the tram approach. Provides patient safety by sitting one-on-one. Notifies RN staff of need for urgent assistance and remains with patient at all times under the direction of the RN assisting the patient as needed. Observes patient and reports observations to RN as well as recording observations per policy. Responds to Codes ensuring that the unit emergency equipment is checked and maintained. Other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 25 lb., lift/move 15 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.

Salary Range: $18.72-24.84/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
