Patient Care Technician Trainee (March 2025 Cohort) - FT - D/N

This position is part of an on-the-job training program offered by Luminis Health.  Internal and external candidates may apply and will be interviewed by nursing unit leadership.  If offered the position, candidates will be enrolled in this program.  Internal employee's must be in good standing, and will have to obtain American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS prior to the start of the training program and transfer into the position. 

Patient Care Technician Trainee

Position Objective:
Provides direct care to patients with special attention to personal hygiene in daily morning and bedtime care and comfort as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.  Currently enrolled in certified nursing assistant training program sponsored at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Essential Functions

Initiates and maintains all types of safety measures and comfort care to patients as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Provides support to patients, families and visitors in polite and ethically appropriate manner as instructed/ supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Remains knowledgeable in oxygen administration, monitor lead application and point of care testing as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Prioritizes discharge of patients by assisting with dressing, gathering belongings and transport if necessary to lobby; removes equipment and supplies from room for environmental staff cleaning as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Assists with admission of patients by greeting and performing initial weight measurement, vital signs, disrobing as necessary and orientation of patient to room and equipment as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Participates in patient care, vital signs, intake and output and other data collection and records according to policy and procedure; obtains specimens as requested using approved procedure as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Assists patients with mobilization and/or positioning as ordered by physician or unit protocol as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Recognizes and reports pain, patient complaint or obvious change in patient condition to assigned nurse as instructed/supervised by designated registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.Reports directly to charge nurse in assigned nurse's absence.Performs other functions as delegated by assigned nurse/chare nurse or Clinical Director.

Required Education:

High School Diploma/GED

Required licensure/certification:

American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certificationMust be issued a C.N.A. by end of program to move into Patient Care Technician or Specialty Technician role.The Patient care tech trainee will cease practice as a trainee on expiration of the 60 day letter from the MBON, or failure of the CNA course, or if denied a 60 day by the MBON. Trainee will be transferred into the Patient Care Technician II job code upon receipt of the CNA certification from the MBON.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
