Job Title: Patient Care Technician - Vascular Access and Procedures
Shift: Day/Evening

Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate will have direct patient care experience in a hospital environment, preferably as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant. This experience will enable the candidate to provide exceptional care in a fast-paced, clinical setting while demonstrating proficiency in technical and communication skills necessary for the Vascular Access and Procedures department.

Job Specific Competencies:

Clinical & Patient Care/Coordination Skills
Consistently and competently demonstrates proficiency in taking patient vital signs and accurately entering them into the medical record (hard copy or electronic). Accurately and proficiently collects procedure-relevant patient information and enters it into the EHR, or collates it as hard copies as required. Accurately identifies variances in lab values based on department parameters and promptly notifies the appropriate staff (RN, Mid-level provider, MD, RT). Demonstrates proactive initiative to complete role responsibilities, including triaging requisitions, screening incoming calls, and documenting pre/post patient information. Removes intravenous lines according to training protocol, if applicable. Maximizes procedure room utilization by providing turnover and transfer assistance, including cleaning of procedure rooms and equipment, as assigned. Maintains patient safety through compliance with institutional policies and Joint Commission regulations. Consistently demonstrates appropriate infection control practices.
Technical Skills
Appropriately and independently navigates ultrasound machines to accurately enter patient demographics. Demonstrates sterile technique when setting up sterile trays and assisting in procedures with minimal supervision. Consistently complies with department specimen handling protocols and Universal Protocol processes. Participates in departmental rotation for Zip Rounding, Safety 365, and TRB. Provides stocking of supplies support, maintains designated parts, and reports expired supplies to V&P Leadership. Conducts daily equipment maintenance (e.g., ultrasound machine, Trophon, Bovie machine, Tip Locating System, etc.). Promptly reports equipment errors or malfunctions to the leadership team and initiates ticket repairs with Biomed or 3-5000. Assists providers with department procedures and other delegated tasks.
Communication Skills
Takes the initiative to clearly communicate variances in lab results, lab needs, and patient-related concerns. Clearly reports all patient-related concerns/variances to the appropriate team members. Consistently maintains professionalism when interacting with others. Fosters a positive team environment through the consistent use of positive, respectful, and professional dialogue. Appropriately utilizes the communication system in place.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in direct patient care, preferably in a hospital environment, as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant. Experience or certification in ultrasound or vascular access procedures is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, and position patients as required. Manual dexterity required for handling medical equipment and patient care tasks.

Preferred: experience in an acute care setting as a Nursing Assistant.
