Patient Financial Advocate - Bariatric Medicine - Full Time

Position Summary:

Performs clerical duties to ensure patients have access to the financial resources available to them.  Responsible for preauthorization/precertification of Protocol plans and Therapy Plans being administered in the Ambulatory Infusion Center. The Patient Financial Advocate is responsible for insurance forms and updates, authorization /re-authorization of new or updated protocol/therapy plans, addressing insurance denials in collaboration with the insurance companies, business office. 

Education, License & Cert: 

Graduate of an associate’s program in medical office assisting or high school diploma.  Familiarity with ICD‐10 coding and insurance knowledge preferred.

Experience: 

Minimum of two years’ experience in an office setting.

Essential Functions: 

Works as liaison with insurance companies to ensure proper payment and reimbursement of treatment in the ambulatory infusion center.Coordinates specialty pharmacy to ensure that patient has proper payment and reimbursement for specialty pharmacy medications.Completes prior authorizations on medication and procedures that require it.Monitors for insurance denials for chemotherapy agents; coordinates appeal process for same and assists patients to find alternate funding if unable to attain approval for a required medication or test.Coordinates with scheduling to ensure timely scheduling of treatment for patients.
