Patient Financial Advocate - Bariatric Medicine - Full Time
Position Summary: Performs clerical duties to ensure patients have access to the financial resources available to them. Responsible for preauthorization/precertification of Protocol plans and Therapy Plans being administered in the Ambulatory Infusion Center. The Patient Financial Advocate is responsible for insurance forms and updates, authorization /re-authorization of new or updated protocol/therapy plans, addressing insurance denials in collaboration with the insurance companies, business office. Education, License & Cert: Graduate of an associate’s program in medical office assisting or high school diploma. Familiarity with ICD‐10 coding and insurance knowledge preferred. Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in an office setting. Essential Functions: + Works as liaison with insurance companies to ensure proper payment and reimbursement of treatment in the ambulatory infusion center. + Coordinates specialty pharmacy to ensure that patient has proper payment and reimbursement for specialty pharmacy medications. + Completes prior authorizations on medication and procedures that require it. + Monitors for insurance denials for chemotherapy agents; coordinates appeal process for same and assists patients to find alternate funding if unable to attain approval for a required medication or test. + Coordinates with scheduling to ensure timely scheduling of treatment for patients.
