Patient Flow Technician - Pre-Admission Services - Full Time

Position Summary:
Provides general support tasks (clinical and non‐clinical) for assigned patient care area. Works with other members of the patient care team to deliver care to patients. The Preadmissions Patient Flow Technician is responsible for registration and scheduling of patients, venipuncture and specimen collection, the performance of EKGs, and facilitating procedural clearance.
Experience:
Previous patient experience required, experience with surgical patients strongly preferred. Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology required. Previous phlebotomy and EKG experience preferred. Previous experience with EMRs, such as EPIC, preferred. Must successfully complete phlebotomy and EKG orientation within 3 months.
Essential Functions:
Facilitates the procedural clearance process for pre‐procedure patients. Facilitates scheduling of testing and clearance appointments and follows up on the results. Registers, pre‐admits, and admits patients as per The Guthrie Clinic’s policies and procedures. Performs routine and specialized phlebotomy procedures (Venipuncture, Skin Puncture), urine specimen collection, nasal swabs, and EKG’s as per guidelines. Instructs patients in proper urine specimen collection technique. Participates in the delivery of patient care under the direction of an RN. Is authorized to access secured storage areas in the performance of essential job functions and duties. Reports need for equipment repair and maintains inventory of patient care area specific supplies and a neat and tidy environment (empties laundry, delivers equipment, keeps patient rooms clean and safe).
Other Duties:
Represents the hospital to patients/families and health care team in a professional, courteous manner while being sensitive to how others perceive both verbal and non‐verbal communications. Answers telephone promptly and politely, and demonstrate proper phone etiquette by identifying self, title, and department. Demonstrates cost‐effective patient care by demonstrating proper use and care of equipment, appropriate and prudent use of supplies, performing other division‐specific tasks, performance improvement activities, and appropriate utilization of available resources. Complies with policies and procedures of the hospital/department.
