A Little More About What You Will be Doing
The Lung Cancer Screening Program Medical Assistant/Patient Navigator provides clinical and administrative support to the nurse practitioner and physician working in the lung cancer screening program. Functions may include patient outreach, scheduling new and follow-up appointment, interview, data collection, documentation in the medical record, tracking patient’s lung screening journey, and general administrative support. This position also includes functions within their scope of education/certification not to exceed what is permitted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center policies, procedures and guidelines. Flexibility and ability to adapt to multiple specialty clinics is needed.
In collaboration with the patient care team, the Patient Navigator works to remove the patient's barriers to care by identifying critical resources, helping navigate through health care services and systems, and promoting patient health. They will operate with a high level of autonomy providing care coordination and workflow processing as well as communication to the patient at all levels throughout their care, at the direction of the care team. The Patient Navigator will use understanding of specific practice specialty, physician and clinic needs to ensure all applicable documentation, verifications, authorizations and equipment/supplies are attained to effectively serve the patient needs. Pro-actively facilitates the process and effective communication on all levels through tactful and professional interaction. Uses knowledge of the clinic to resolve complexed issues and identify ways to increase patient satisfaction and outcomes. Provides advance level of non-clinical and administrative support to the staff, physicians, and patients. They will be the subject matter expert and provide training to others and conducting training session(s) on new processes/workflows. Serves as an ambassador, change agent, quality champion, and mentor/resource.
Acquires all results (films, test) prior to patient visitConducts appropriate hand-offs or reporting process as defined by program workflows and applicable policy.Participates in the patient check out process: facilitating follow-up tests, and referrals and may participate in obtaining prior authorizations to allow for timely scheduling of follow-up appointments to other providers.Maintains referral and tracking systems and ensures accurate and timely follow through with all referrals generatedReduces the risk of health care acquired infection by aligning with current CDC guidelines and CSMC Hospital Acquired Infection prevention policy.Performs unit office procedures including all general administrative duties as required (i.e. scanning, filing, faxing, phones, courier duties, etc.).Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s)Cultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with stakeholders and/or client groupsEnsures practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversityParticipates in quality improvement initiativesSchedules new or follow-up appointments and participates in outreach activities, either through EMR or via telehealthParticipates in community health events during work hoursQualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or GED requiredGraduate of an accredited medical assistant program preferredBachelor's Degree in a healthcare related field preferredExperience3 years of experience in medical office, ambulatory care facility or medical group practice required3 years of experience in insurance contracts and payor requirements preferredLicenses/CertificationBasic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross requiredMedical Assistant certification and/or diploma preferredCalifornia Certified Phlebotomy License preferred
