Medical Screener –

Behavioral Health - Crisis Intervention Services

Position Summary:

Position conducts medical screening for all clients admitted to the Northern Idaho Crisis Center, assists with medical oversight for patients scheduled for medications, responds to medical emergencies that occur at the center and facilitates medical transfers. 

Responsibilities: 

Performs medical screening, including vital signs, for all admitted clients Gathers and documents patient information Stores client medications and offers at scheduled times Performs blood glucose monitoring by fingerstick if indicated Performs breathalyzer test for clients who appear intoxicated Administers Narcan per policy Continually monitors patient medical status during admission Provides basic first aid as required Responds to any medical emergency that occurs at the center and calls for appropriate assistance Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function Performs other related duties as assigned Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned 

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred Completion of Emergency Medical Technician program required Current Emergency Medical Technician certification from an approved institution required Minimum 2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting or in the field as an EMT preferred Knowledge of spelling and medical terminology preferred BLS required.  Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation MOAB certification during General Orientation

Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position Typical equipment used in a clinical job Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
