The Patient Safety Specialist:
Reduces the risk of patient harm by assessing patient safety risk, developing patient safety initiatives, advancing culture of safety initiatives, and partnering with leadership to implement improvements. Leads the investigation process into incidents, manages peer case review, conducts roots cause analysis, and facilitates meetings as needed. Acts in a leadership role around patient safety functions including assessments, implementation, planning of error reduction strategies, and patient safety communication. Collaborates with leaders, to proactively plan, manage, coordinate, and evaluate patient safety initiatives of various size and scope, along with the Service Line VPs, Chiefs, Clinical Directors, and Patient Safety and Quality Leadership. Provides direction to and partners with service line leaders and service line teams such as the Quality Improvement team to manage patient safety issues. Contributes to the continued improvement of patient safety practices, employs evidence-based practice, and research best practices through National Patient Safety Organizations (i.e., NPSF, IHI, NQF). Utilizes informatics, tracks, and presents data, and monitors trends to quickly identify opportunities for improvement and then implement mistake proofing techniques. Provides comprehensive status reports to leaders, including identified patient safety issues, ongoing implementation plans, and RCA/Stakeholder meeting/FMEA updates. Focuses on implementing and reinforcing the principles that support a high-reliability organization. Works independently and with team members to complete tasks and achieve goals.Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday Days 0800-1700Required Qualifications:
Must have at least 2 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital or clinic setting. State of MN RN licensure required. Proficiency using personal computer, photocopy machine, fax, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Visio, Access, and other Patient safety software (event reporting system) as appropriate.Preferred Qualifications:
BSN or BAN preferred. Patient Safety experience preferred. Certified Professional In-Patient Safety Certification (CPPS), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), and Lean certification, desirable.Benefits:
