Location: UHealth TowerThe University of Miami Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Patient Transporter 1 (U). The Patient Transporter 1 (U) is responsible for transporting patients safely and efficiently to and from all departments as coordinated.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:
Transports patients efficiently and in a timely manner to and from the Department in accordance with department time standards as evidenced by random activity log audits.
Responsible for performing various aide activities under the direction of a radiologic technologist, such as putting the patient on the exam table..
Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift.
Accurately notes all patients’ names by identifying them by their name and medical record number as evidenced by random observation by supervisor.
Properly documents required information on floor log sheet for each transport perform ancillary department as monitored by random audits of logs.
Check with patient's Nurse prior to the start of any activity/transport. Only transports patients with identification bracelets and following clearance from the patients’ nurse
Correctly stores all contrast media within the department, keeping all contrast and ass plies for injections in locked cabinetry in the department.
Maintains patient’s privacy during transport, utilizing sheets/blankets.
Brings necessary paper work from the unit with the patient during transport (i.e., medical record, key plate, etc.) as monitored by supervising Technologist/Dispatcher.
Notifies supervisor of the area, within ten minutes of being dispatched, of any delays in transporting the patient (i.e., physician in the room, patient receiving treatment) as observed by transportation activity log.
Responsible for returning all transportation equipment to the Radiology Department after completion of each transport request when equipment is not needed for a turn-around request.
Displays proper use and care of transportation equipment as observed by management comments received.
Operates and maintains assigned equipment in an effective and safe manner.
Immediately reports equipment hazards or malfunctions to the Courier Dispatcher as monitored by Plant Operations work requests.
Responsible for adhering to infection control policies and procedures.
Follows universal precaution guidelines at all times and wears Personal Protective Equipment appropriate for the task to be performed.
Responsible for utilizing proper body mechanics.
Transports contrast media to the Emergency Dept. for CT scans as needed, informing the Nurse in charge of the patient who is responsible for contrast at the patient’s bedside and oversees administration.
Responsible for routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and insures cleanliness prior to use by subsequent patients as monitored by supervising Technologist/Dispatcher and comments received.
Adheres to Patient Bill of Rights. Respects patient’s privacy.
Always knocks or requests entrance to patient’s room prior to entering regardless of whether it is open or closed.
Attends and participates in Departmental meetings.
Demonstrates an understanding of emergency drills, evacuation procedures and internal/external disaster plans and procedures as evidenced by in-service attendance records and participation in drills.
Adheres to hospital/department attendance policies.
Schedules and attends to personal business outside of normal work schedule.
Exercises flexibility in schedule by working various shifts and days at Supervisor’s request in order to meet departmental or hospital staffing needs.
Recognizes and performs duties which need to be done, although not directly assigned
Responsible for reporting to the supervising Technologist and/or Dispatcher upon completion of all assigned duties for additional activities to be performed.
Adheres to and supports the concepts and ideals of the Diamond Program.
Applies physical age-specific care to applicable populations as documented by the Competency Validation Checklist:

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
BLS Certification
Minimum of six months’ experience as a courier in a hospital setting preferred
