In this pivotal role, you will work under limited supervision to enhance the safety, quality, and efficiency of our transportation system. You will collaborate on innovative surface designs and rehabilitation strategies to maintain and improve the State’s pavement infrastructure. Additionally, you will conduct thorough analyses of materials throughout both the design and construction phases of projects and assist in resolving surfacing design and construction-related issues. Your role will also involve exploring cutting-edge ideas and practices to advance our pavement design efforts, supporting the development of research plans, overseeing the construction of research projects, and implementing research recommendations. You will create detailed specifications, write comprehensive reports, and deliver engaging presentations to stakeholders. Human Resource Contact: Tina Borgaard at 307-777-4356 or tina.borgaard1@wyo.gov ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level. + Assists in developing surface designs, including reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in accordance with the Wyoming Pavement Structure Design Guide using AASHTO Pavement Design Guides and Software + When necessary, conducts a life cycle cost analysis on multiple alternatives to aid in selecting the appropriate surfacing design or rehabilitation strategy + Assists in the assemblage of project construction history, including existing surfacing types/depths and current pavement condition + Collaborates with the procurement of surface cores/base samples with the field investigation crew and the Pavement Management Engineer + Assists in developing the "Materials and Rates" for the project plans + Communicates with Resident Engineers throughout WYDOT to determine the needs of individual projects + Evaluates historic mix design data on surfacing sources throughout the state of Wyoming + Evaluates and recommends solutions for material-related issues during construction + Assists in implementing improved, innovative materials and construction techniques by investigation and research, reviews and monitors testing and construction, writes evaluations, and tracks product performance + Assists the laboratory crew by learning materials and lab testing procedures + Provides guidance to crews/teams when compiling preliminary data, coordinating field investigations, and conducting research Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: + Skills in current engineering principles; analyzing and interpreting data; statistical knowledge; technical writing; decision-making; analyzing new technology; computer applications + Ability to organize and prioritize work; communicate effectively internally and with other Programs and entities; interpret specifications and plans, and work independently + Ability to multi-task + Ability to research, compile, and present technical presentations + Knowledge of principles and methods used to develop and conduct research projects MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Required.
