The Pawnbroker is responsible for evaluating and providing loans on items that are pledged to the pawnshop, such as firearms, tools, jewelry, electronics, musical instruments, sporting goods and other valuables. You’ll also work with customers to facilitate the purchase and sale of merchandise.
Essential Functions & Duties: Greet customers and provide outstanding customer service Evaluate and appraise items brought in for pawn or sale, negotiate loan amounts and explain terms with customers Verify identification and complete necessary paperwork for each transaction Evaluate, price and display forfeited pawned items or purchased inventory Facilitate the sale of merchandise, maintain accurate sales records of transactions and inventory and balance the till at the end of each day Safely store and secure pawned items and keep the pawnshop clean and organized
Additional Responsibilities: Develop relationships with customers to increase business and customer loyalty Provide customers with information about the pawnshop's policies and procedures Maintain knowledge of current market trends and prices of merchandise to ensure fair evaluations and prices Participate in marketing and promotional activities to increase the visibility of the pawnshop Attend industry conferences and workshops to stay up to date on industry trends and regulations as determined by management
Starting Pay: $16/hour DOE + commission
Schedule: Full-time, evening and weekend availability
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience working in a pawnshop or similar environment preferred Knowledge of merchandise evaluation and appraisals and familiarity with laws and regulations governing pawnbrokers Strong negotiation, customer service and math skills Experience with handling cash and maintaining accurate records Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, reach and lift up to 30 lbs.
