Payroll Accountant
Description We are actively seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to join our non-profit organization. This role plays a critical part in our finance team, handling the intricacies of biweekly payroll processes for between 700-750 employees and providing crucial insights for financial decisions. Key Responsibilities: + Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll accounting process for 700-750 employees on a biweekly basis. + Generate and review journal entries for payroll transactions and ensure their accurate reflection in the financial statements. + Analyze payroll data and reports, and create quality financial reports for management review. + Maintain a deep understanding of salary, PTO and time-off accruals, ensuring these are correctly calculated and recorded. + Carry out detailed reconciliations for all payroll accounts to ensure accuracy of data and adherence to accounting principles. + Work collaboratively with internal teams on special projects related to payroll and accounting, bringing financial insights and expertise. + Assure organizational compliance with California payroll laws, regulations, and best practices, keeping up to date with any changes. + Provide technical guidance on complex payroll scenarios, deductions, benefits calculations, and taxation. Requirements Requirements: + 3-4 years of payroll accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization. + Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles as applied to payroll. + Experience with payroll for a large number of employees, and familiarity with biweekly payroll cycles. + Union payroll experience is considered a plus. + Exceptional analytical skills and a keen attention to detail. + Proficient in using payroll and accounting software. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse internal teams.
