Payroll Analyst

Job Summary

The jobholder is responsible for the accurate processing of all payroll transactions for Morton Salt, Inc. (and related companies) employees based in the United States and the Bahamas. The jobholder resolves daily operational problems of intermediate complexity, being knowledgeable about all aspects of US payroll to provide superior customer service to all employees. The jobholder also serves as a backup for the Canadian Payroll as needed. Additionally, the jobholder provides HR-level support in HR master data coordination.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the integrity and processing of all US and Bahamian payroll cycles for all salaried and hourly employees at Morton Salt, Inc. (and some related companies) Ensure all employees receive accurate pay statements reflecting proper pay for hours worked, salary / rate changes, retroactive pay calculations, terminations, benefit deductions, and disability / other payments Properly withhold deductions for benefits and other deductions from employee paychecks Ensure employee time tracking for non-working hours (paid time off, vacation, floating holidays, etc.) is properly input into the payroll system as per Company policy Ensure all salary non-exempt overtime is tracked and approved into the Time & Attendance system Process all short-term disability payments and reconcile to the insurance provider’s information Assist with the year-end W-2 (and other tax information) distribution and reconciliation process Assist with the general ledger postings of all payroll activity to ensure accuracy for Finance team Process garnishments and verification of employments with accuracy and per established guidelines Assist with ensuring pay rules are accurate within the timekeeping system per collective bargaining agreements Provide reconciliations, analysis, and support to the Payroll Manager, as needed Investigate inquiries from outside agencies as needed Aid Benefits team with completion of benefit related information for withholding orders Process all wellness program related benefits for employee taxation purposes Complete and retain backup documentation for payrolls processed in line with the Company record retention policy Maintain and monitor internal controls for payroll processing and related pay master data changes Review system reports to detect issues and take appropriate action to ensure issues are resolved in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor's/Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with processing payroll or accounting for mid- to large-size companies with multi- country operations Strong analytical skills: ability to analyze details, identify and resolve issues Excellent communication skills Demonstrated experience maintaining confidentiality of highly sensitive information Track record of success and self-starter, results, and deadline oriented Team player capable of multi-tasking and providing results under extreme deadlines Knowledge of Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) software is preferred
