The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of payroll processing and employee benefits administration. This role will involve ensuring accurate and timely payroll, administering benefits programs, and addressing team member questions and concerns related to compensation and benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall, the Payroll and Benefit Specialist’s responsibilities will be focused on the following:
Payroll Administration:
Assist with processing payroll on a bi-weekly/semi-monthly basis, ensuring all team members are paid correctly and on time. Maintain accurate records of hours worked, overtime, deductions, and bonuses. Prepare payroll reports and reconcile discrepancies. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including filing and remitting payroll taxes. Assist with payroll inquiries and resolve employee payroll issues in a timely manner.Benefits Administration:
Assist with administering team member benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, supplemental, and other offerings. Ensure proper enrollment and eligibility of team members for benefit programs. Assist team members with benefits selection and provide necessary guidance on benefits options. Coordinate with benefit vendors and resolve any issues with claims, coverage, or billing.Compliance & Reporting:
Stay up to date with current payroll and benefits laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with FLSA, FMLA, ERISA, ACA, and other relevant legislation. Ensure timely and accurate filing of all payroll-related documents, including W-2s, 1095-Cs, and other required filings. Assist in audits of payroll and benefits programs and ensure proper documentation is maintained for compliance purposes.Employee Communication:
Assist with managing the Payroll inbox and ensure timely responses on all matters. Function as a point of contact for team members regarding payroll and benefits questions. Provide support to team members during benefit enrollment, life events, and changes in payroll information. Educate team members on benefits offerings, including healthcare, retirement planning, and wellness programs.Record Keeping and Data Integrity:
Maintain accurate payroll and benefits records in HRIS (UKG) and other systems. Ensure the confidentiality and security of all payroll and benefits-related information.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (highly preferred). One (1) or more years of experience in human resources; preferably in a payroll and benefits administration capacity. Knowledge of payroll software and/or HRIS systems. Familiarity with payroll and benefits-related tax regulations. Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information. Certification such as CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) is a plus but not required. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Customer service-oriented with a solution-focused approach.
