Payroll Business Systems Specialist
**What you will do**
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. This role is integral in managing and optimizing Amgen's payroll systems, ensuring efficient payroll processing, integration, and troubleshooting. The Payroll Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for the ownership of payroll systems, identifying system enhancements, managing break-fix issues, and supporting key payroll and GL integration processes. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth operation of payroll-related technologies and systems.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Ownership of Payroll System** :
+ Oversee the payroll system, including semi-monthly Workday releases, testing, training, and updates to Quick Reference Guides (QRGs).
+ Communicate system updates to staff and ensure smooth adoption of new releases.
**Break Fix Management** :
+ Identify and resolve break-fix issues related to the payroll system, including testing solutions and approving updates for production.
+ **System Enhancements** :
+ Take ownership of system enhancements by prioritizing enhancement ideas, documenting requirements, and ensuring thorough testing and deployment of solutions.
**GL and Payroll Integrations** :
+ Oversee General Ledger (GL) operations and ensure smooth payroll integrations, which are not supported by the vendor.
+ Monitor and resolve errors related to payroll integrations, collaborating with the integration team as needed.
+ Drive end to end GL-Payroll system integrations, including data mapping configurations, interface monitoring and variance resolution.
+ Serve as technical point of contact for GL operations, ensuring accurate financial posting and system optimization.
**EIB Support** :
+ Manage Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) creation and troubleshoot errors. EIB is a tool used to import/export data between Workday and other systems.
+ Familiar with Payroll EIBs for payroll input, off cycle, etc.
+ Able to create complex EIBs for reporting relocation, equity and state wage & tax corrections.
**Training and Support** :
+ Provide backup for Payroll Administrator activities, ensuring continuity in case of absences or transitions, and assist with cross-training within the team.
**Support for Key Annual Activities** :
+ Collaborate with the Payroll Manager on key payroll activities such as DCP Distributions, Annual Bonuses, and Equity Vests, ensuring smooth execution and processing.
**Enhancement Identification** :
+ Work with the Product Owner to identify opportunities for enhancements in the payroll system, ensuring that these improvements are prioritized and tested.
+ Evaluate existing business processes and identify areas for improvement, including potential automation opportunities.
**SOP Maintenance** :
+ Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are up to date, maintaining clear documentation of key payroll processes and workflows.
**Equity & Relocation Reporting Assistance** :
+ Assist with equity reporting for mobile populations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with quarterly SOX reconciliation.
+ Assist with the creation of EIB for any dropped equity transactions that occur on our daily equity integration.
+ Assist with validation of monthly relocation file and creation of EIB for any dropped records.
**Complex Query Management** :
+ Provide support for complex payroll-related queries, including time-related inquiries such as day breakers, shift differentials, and employee schedules.
**Integration Team Collaboration** :
+ Work closely with the Amgen Integration Team to clarify responsibilities related to payroll integrations. Create processes to effectively manage and oversee payroll integrations.
**Year-End Activity Support** :
+ Assist in essential year-end processes, ensuring that payroll and financial data is accurate and compliant with regulatory standards.
+ Support testing of year-end tax statements (Ex. W-2 Forms) and validation of statements.
+ Assist with Audits during the year that will help reduce year-end adjustments and W-2 corrections.

**Basic Qualifications:**
Doctorate degree
**Or**
Master’s degree and 2 years of payroll experience
**Or**
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of payroll experience
**Or**
Associate’s degree and 8 years of payroll experience
**Or**
High school diploma / GED and 10 years of payroll experience
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Accounting, or a related field
+ 3+ years of experience in payroll processing, business systems analysis, or a related field.
+ Experience with payroll systems such as Workday.
+ Experience in managing GL operations and payroll integrations.
+ Familiarity with Workday Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) tool.
+ Experience in a corporate payroll or enterprise-level payroll environment.
+ Certification in Payroll (e.g., CPP - Certified Payroll Professional).
+ Familiarity with Agile project management practices.
+ Strong understanding of payroll systems, HRIS systems, and related software.
+ Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau).
+ Experience with payroll compliance requirements, tax regulations, and labor laws.
+ Knowledge of SOX compliance and equity reporting.
+ Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with attention to detail.
+ Collaborative team player with strong organizational skills.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $92,757 to $115,268. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
