Payroll Lead
About the Role

Sense is recruiting for a Payroll Lead to join our fantastic People & Culture Team, working on a hybrid basis 2/3 days per week from our offices in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

The Payroll Team Leader supports the Payroll Manager overseeing all aspects of the payroll team for Sense, supervising the operational administration of the team and giving advice and information to all employees and external agencies where appropriate. The purpose of this post is to manage all aspects of the payroll function for 2 separate payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all payroll and pension transactions, compliance with all aspects of HMRC reporting and tax legislation and with the requirements of the organisations pension providers.

The main duties and responsibilities include:

Represent the department on internal working groups and/or committees and external professional groups if required.Supervise the day-to-day operational administration of the payroll team.Foster a customer-focused approach to payroll services and ensuring a timely response to employee queries.Provide support to the Payroll Manager in the management of all payroll related administration and processing.Responsible for all requests for payroll related data and analysis.Support the Payroll Manager with the timely and accurate completion of Statutory Returns, including pensions.Assist with development, documentation and implementation of administrative procedures.Administer the maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental schemes offered by the organisation and keep updated on statutory and scheme rules.Provide payroll training to managers and administrators across the organisation.Liaise with colleagues in other departments to ensure delivery of an effective and efficient payroll service.Liaise with internal and external audit as necessary.Checking and authorising contractual changes and updates to the payroll system.Ensure accurate and efficient processing of starters and leavers.Ensuring compliance with HMRC and pensions legislation.Liaise with and advise the People and Culture team on payroll related issues to ensure an accurate and efficient service.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management or equivalent qualification desirable.Comprehensive current knowledge of payroll procedures, controls and statutory requirements of PAYE, NIC, SSP, SMP, SAP, SPP etc. Payrite experience desirable.Excellent IT skills (specifically Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook).Demonstrable evidence of collaborative working across functions to achieve the best outcomes for our people.Evidence of own continuing professional development.
