Description A Robert Half Management Resources client is in immediate need of a remote Payroll and Compliance Manager consultant who will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll, ensuring correct adherence to federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, and keeping the company up-to-date with changing payroll laws. This person will work directly under the Controller's supervision and will support our organization's remote and geographically dispersed employee base. Key Responsibilities: Oversee and manage all aspects of payroll and compliance to ensure accuracy and consistency as per federal, state, and local payroll tax laws. Stay abreast of changing payroll laws, assess their impact on our organization, and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance. Ensure knowledge and experience with multi-state payroll, employer taxes, Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), 401(k), and health and welfare benefit plans. Build, iterate, and automate processes to ensure efficiency and compliance within the organization. Collaboratively work with fellow colleagues, and be responsive, detail-oriented, and thorough in completing tasks. Lead, coach, and develop employees within the payroll and compliance function, ensuring cross-training and backup support in this critical area. Candidate Profile: Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. Proven experience in managing multi-state payroll and compliance issues. Knowledge and experience with ESOPs, 401(k), health and welfare benefit plans. Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Previous experience leading and developing a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong project management and problem-solving skills. Self-starter who can work independently, but also collaboratively in a team.
