The payroll department is the team that ensures all associates are paid timely and accurately. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of payroll for the Managed Hotel Division, including the processing of bi-weekly pay cycles, time reporting, and tax compliance. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with various departments and hotels to gather and validate payroll information, resolve payroll discrepancies, complete off cycle payroll processing when needed, and provide service to associates

Your Responsibilities
PAYROLL OPERATIONS
Manage end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 1,000 associates in a multi-state, multi-entity environment, including processing of bi-weekly payrolls, tips and services charges, garnishments, tax withholdings, and time tracking via ADP Workforce Manager.
Processes taxable events (relocation expenses, associate gifts, other earnings); ensures appropriate taxation and filings.
Works closely with the Benefits Team to validate FMLA leave pay.
Performs payroll reconciliations and audits to ensure integrity and accuracy of payroll, compliance with company policies, and FLSA regulations (including multi-state pay/weighted average calculations); works to resolve any issues promptly and accurately.
Partners with Regional Managed Hotel HR Team to resolve associates’ questions and concerns with payroll related issues; providing exceptional customer service.
Coordinates with Managed Hotel Finance Team to ensure all accrual and expense reporting is appropriately captured.
Works with Corporate Payroll Team to assist with bi-weekly Corporate Payroll processing, as needed.
TAX ADMINISTRATION
Ensure that all federal, state and local tax withholdings/filings are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements, including Quarterly Tax Filings, Amendments, and associated reconciliations.
Keeps abreast of tax law changes; federal, state, and others, as appropriate to alert the team of any additional research and/or actions that are required.
Works with ADP to create new tax jurisdictions, resolve tax agency notices, and validate tax profile setup in ADP Smart Compliance and Workday.
Partners with Director, Payroll Operations for W2 creation and reconciliation for the Managed Hotel Division and works with ADP to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
COMPLIANCE & REPORTING
Ensures compliance with all federal, state (including California), and local payroll laws and regulations, including filings with assistance from outside providers where needed.
Generates reports to support the business with Managed Hotel payroll related data (i.e., Accounting, Corporate Tax, Treasury, Risk, Finance, etc.).
Assist Director, Payroll Operations with SOX Audits of payroll processes and ensures timely compliance with applicable guidelines.
Your Experience, Skills & Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
Relevant professional certification in payroll management, i.e., Certified Payroll Professional (CPP); preferred.
5+ years Payroll lead experience required.
Background in hospitality or retail; preferred.
Experience in Workday Payroll system to include system configuration, timekeeping and reporting (required).
Experience in ADP Smart Compliance to include tax profile setup, tax filings, and reconciliations (required).
Experience in ADP Workforce Manager for time tracking, preferred.
Strong knowledge of laws and legislation governing payroll, as well as associated accounting and tax requirements.
Must be flexible and able to work accurately and timely in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Demonstrates key competencies to ensure accountability, communicate effectively, and drive results.

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Director, Payroll Operations. You will have 1 peer teammate and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

As our Manager, Payroll Operations, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $112,000 to $130,000 annually. In addition to the annual salary, this role is eligible for an annual bonus based on the terms of Choice's Management Incentive Plan (MIP).
The pay range listed is for this position and is what Choice Hotels reasonably expects to pay. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
