Job Overview

Komatsu is seeking a Payroll Team Lead to enhance our HR Operations team. HR Operations provides support to Komatsu’s North America-based businesses in the areas of payroll, onboarding, offboarding, leave management, reporting, and HR analytics.  This vital role will report directly to the payroll manager but will provide indirect leadership to and support of payroll administration within HR Operations, with future career advancement opportunities available.

Key Job Responsibilities Oversee and provide backup coverage for the payroll processing for a weekly, biweekly, and monthly union and non-union payrolls to ensure the accuracy of the withholdings and deductions associated with taxes, benefits, garnishments, support orders, and items defined in the union collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) Analyzes payrolls for reasonableness before payment; challenge unexpected results to ensure accuracy Ensure the team meets expectations in terms of consistency, accuracy, and timely completion of daily tasks Lead the payroll team in responding to inquiries related to payroll and provides guidance on the prevailing laws governing payroll and income taxes, employee benefits, garnishments, reimbursement policies and other statutory pay and related entitlements Monitor payment of payroll taxes on behalf of the company Monitor garnishment payments on behalf of our employees Confirm data changes via automated process for employee changes such as new hires, terminations, and pay changes Support the preparation of annual W2 tax filings, Respond to any other tax related inquiries from federal, state, and local authorities Collaborate well with colleagues and foster strong teamwork

 

Qualifications/Requirements High school diploma (or equivalent) required; Associates level degree preferred 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources, Payroll, or Finance (preferred) Ability to think critically, find solutions, and overcome challenges Demonstrate the ability to plan and execute with minimal oversight Must possess clear, professional, and effective verbal and written communication skills Must posess strong customer service Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently meet strict deadlines Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment, manage high volume repetitive daily tasks, and be highly adaptable Proven success with tasks requiring high level of accuracy and confidentiality  Able to handle difficult situations with patience. Confidence in interacting with employees at all levels of the organization, both vertically and horizontally Willingness to learn: the importance of payroll processes and procedures federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines payroll tax laws, HR laws, garnishment laws, and HR policies Intermediate Excel skills required with willingness to broaden Excell skills to advanced Basic understanding of the importance of labor unions within an organization and commitment to learning the nuances to ensure pay is accurate Ability to navigate multiple computer systems
