Purpose

The PCL Guard Manager oversees the security and protection of the Perry-Castaneda Library (PCL), the main library at UT Austin and a part of the UT Libraries portfolio. Through management of guards, student employees, and Building Use Policies, this position ensures that PCL is a friendly, safe, and welcoming place for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The PCL Guard Manager works closely with UT Libraries and campus partners on safety and security procedures and protocols.

Responsibilities

Provide security for PCL and information for visitors, students and employees. Provide friendly and quality customer service and information to students, employees, and visitors at PCL.Update security procedures and protocols. Complete written reports and monitor security sensitive equipment. Apply knowledge of Office of Emergency Preparedness and UT Libraries policies and procedures. Drive a UT vehicle on occasion. Work closely with the Manager of Facilities, Branch and Borrower Services Manager, and Head of User Services to ensure consistent and quality processes across various areas.Serve as liaison with contracted security personnel to schedule and manage security guards. Manage guards during their shift. Hire, train, and supervise student employees.Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of security experience in a supervisory/manager capacity.Demonstrated experience coordinating security services in an academic library setting, managing a team of security professionals, and emergency response planning and training.  Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting incidents and collaborating with students, staff, and faculty.Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills, with the ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and professionally.Strong leadership and personnel management skills, with the ability to motivate, train, and supervise a dynamic team.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to develop, implement, and enforce security policies, procedures, and protocols tailored to the academic environment.Proficient in using security management software and technology (e.g., surveillance systems, access control, emergency notification systems).Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to campus security and safety.

Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions.Climbing of stairs.Weekend and evening work may be required.Kneeling, walking, standing.Use of UT-owned vehicles as transportation between on-campus work sites.Typical library conditions.

Work Shift

Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7am - 6pm, as arranged with manager.
