The Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital, a tertiary care teaching hospital, is seeking both new and experienced PCTs to join our team. Recognized as being one of the busiest ED’s in Connecticut, HHED is also an accredited Level 1 Trauma Center, chest pain center and comprehensive stroke center, treating patients of the highest acuity in the region. Comprised of 108 beds, with the addition of a new 19 bed ED Observation Unit, HHED treats an average of 109,000 patients annually. Additionally, Hartford Hospital Emergency Department is a proud recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2024 Lantern Award for demonstrating excellence in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research performance. The Lantern Award is a visible symbol of an emergency department’s commitment to quality, safety, a healthy work environment and innovation in nursing practice and emergency care. Under supervision of the Registered Nurse, The Patient Care Technician (PCT, PCA, CNA) is responsible for performing specific duties that support patient care, which includes direct and indirect patient care activities. PCT responsibilities include, but are not limited to, movement of patients throughout the department, completion of point of care testing (EKGs, fingersticks, pregnancy/urine tests), continuous observation of high-risk patients, assisting patients with activities of daily living, performing CPR, proactive hourly rounding on patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting within the electronic medical record, and more. Our PCTs perform in a high acuity environment with multiple priorities. Additional responsibilities and career advancement opportunities are available through a clinical ladder for Patient Care Technicians based on experience, skillsets, and certifications held. The Emergency Department also offers additional growth opportunities such as a Lead PCT position for those eligible and interested after 1 year of work experience. Qualifications: · No experience required; training on-site provided. · High school diploma or GED preferred. · Certifications such as CNA, CPCT/A, EMT or CMA are eligible for advancement in the PCT clinical career ladder. · Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
