About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center

The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for the position of Aflac Hematology Clinician. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has 125 faculty members and approximately 50 Advance Practice Providers (APPs) conducting basic, translational, and clinical research related to pediatric oncology and hematology disorders.  More than 9,000 children with cancer and blood disorders are treated annually at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.

 

About the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center Hematology and Oncology Sections:

The Aflac pediatric hematology and oncology program is one of the largest in the country. We are home to largest pediatric Sickle Cell program in the country, including >2,000 active patients, conducting basic, translational, and clinical research related to Sickle cell disease and hemoglobinopathies. In addition, we have nearly 500 new cancer diagnosis year after year with a wide variety of basic, translational, and clinical research in leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, and brain tumors.

 

The Hematology Section currently includes 32 faculty members, 10 of whom are primarily clinically focused as well as 15 advance practice providers. The Oncology Section includes 33 faculty members, 13 of whom are primarily clinically focused and 16 advance practice providers.

 

About the Available Position:

Clinical Hematologist/Oncologist:

In this role, the provider will devote 90-100% to clinical responsibilities.  We anticipate this time may include both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, including call and will be adjusted depending on service needs.  The location and ratio of inpatient to outpatient clinical work may be adjusted somewhat depending upon service needs.

 

In collaboration with program leaders, the candidate would contribute to and expand the clinical program and patient services in general hematology and oncology.

 

Based on experience and interests, research, educational, and leadership role opportunities within the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders may exist.

 

Provide clinical coverage at all locations that the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta serves, which includes Arthur M. Blank Hospital and Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital

 

Play a role in the education and training program of the pediatric Hem/Onc/BMT Division, including access to and involvement with medical students, residents, fellows, and occasionally physicians in practice.

 

Successful candidates will have:

MD, MD/PhD, or DO degreesMust be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Hematology-OncologyMust be currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of GeorgiaA history of clinical excellence/achievement

 

Salary and rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor at Emory University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments. The primary focus of this position will be an emphasis on clinical service.
