The Pediatric Hematology Program is a section of the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Cellular Therapy at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, the hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
The Division sees an average of about 750 children with sickle cell disease (SCD), the largest pediatric sickle cell program in the New York metropolitan area. Gene therapy for both sickle cell disease (clinical trial) and transfusion-dependent thalassemia (commercial product) are onboarded and will be available for patients. A robust Hemostasis-Thrombosis program and federally funded Hemophilia treatment center follows 200 patients. A dedicated Platelet disorders program is unique in the region and provides state of the art diagnostics and care. A multidisciplinary Girls and Bleeding Disorders program provides improved access and collaborative care. The Division partners closely with the Adult Hematology team at Montefiore for lifespan care in all chronic hematologic disorders. The robust Pediatric Hematology team includes 5 faculty members, 6 Nurse Practitioners, 4 CRAs, 0.5 Research NP, 3 SWs. This is in addition to faculty and staff supporting the Oncology and Transplant/Cellular therapy sections within the Division.
We are seeking to recruit faculty with training in Pediatric Hematology and training/experience in Transfusion medicine with an interest in SCD. Board certification/eligibility in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is required and in Transfusion Medicine is preferred but not required. The goal is to establish and grow a SCD apheresis program, improve care of transfused SCD patients, increase communication between the departments and establish appropriate work flows.
There are abundant opportunities for programmatic growth. A salary of $200,000-335,000 will be offered, commensurate with academic rank and clinical specialty. There are opportunities to enhance compensation with clinical productivity incentives and bonuses. LTD, STD, paid malpractice, CME with stipend, 403(b) with match and much, much more is offered.
