Diasgnostic Respiratory Therapists provide coverage for discharge planning, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, and clinic support in accordance with hospital and departmental guidelines as ordered by the physicians. Supplement adult and pediatric respiratory care when required.

Function/Duties of Position

DISCHARGE PLANNING:

Assess, develop and communicate safe discharge plans.Facilitate reimbursement for home care by working with vendors and Care Management.Educate patients and care givers in the use of medical equipment needed for hospital to home transition.Establish and follow up on weaning plans for long term ventilated patients

PULMONARY FUNCTION LABS AND CLINICS:

Perform pulmonary function testing including: spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity, methacholine challenge, pulse oximetry and exercise studies and new tests as trained.Completes reports and billing according to department policy.Schedules and checks in/out patients appropriately for procedures.Provide patient & family instruction on various therapeutic modalities including respiratory care treatments, non-invasive and invasive home ventilationDemonstrates an understanding of current and all new care modalities and equipment as they pertain to this position.Completes all competency testing, required in-services and activities. Takes personal responsibility for maintaining competency for equipment and modalities within the Diagnostic Respiratory Care Practitioner scope of practice.

BRONCHOSCOPY PROCEDURES:

Assists physicians with bronchoscopy procedures per procedure.Completes reports and billing per department policy.Schedules patients and checks patients in/out appropriately for procedures.

RESPIRATORY CARE:

Provides therapeutic interventions including but not limited to: airway management, therapeutic gases and ventilator management, newborn resuscitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.Performs diagnostic procedures including but not limited to: sampling of arterial blood, bedside spirometry, spontaneous ventilatory parameters, point of care testing.Therapeutic modalities and communication approached with reference to age specific needs of the patient, including Doernbecher Children's Hospital Family Centered Care Program.Assists other Respiratory Care Practitioners and health professionals to provide quality patient care in the spirit of teamwork. Trains new Respiratory Therapists, students and other healthcare team members. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by a manager, supervisor or lead worker. Required Qualifications Minimum of an associate degree from a respiratory therapy education program supported or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

A current, valid Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner's (LRCP) credential issued by the Health Licensing Office for the State of Oregon

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor Degree2 years pulmonary function testing experienceCertified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Additional Details

Pay Range: $38.74 - $53.17 per hour (Commensurate with qualifications, experience and internal equity)

Work location in sometimes noisy patient care areas. 12 hour shifts. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids, airborn pathogens, magnetic fields, and radiation.
