Job Overview:

The Patient Care Technician assists professional staff in performing direct patient care tasks. Provides direct patient care as delegated by nursing and therapy staff and directed by the patient care plan.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diplomaAHA BLS Provider CertificationPhysical stamina and ability to safely lift and move objects and peopleConscientious, cooperative, ability to work as a team member

Preferred:

Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) curriculum completionMedical Assistant certification

Certifications and Licenses Required:

AHA BLS Provider Certification

Full Time Day

Essential Functions:

Provides direct patient care as delegated by nursing and therapy staff and directed by the patient care plan. Care activities functions include but are not limited to:Bedside carryover tasks (ROM, assistive standing devices, adaptive equipment, ADL care, special positioning techniques, splints|contracture care, bladder retraining)BathingSafe patient transport, positioning and transferPool support (transfers, dressing, showering)Participation in treatment sessions| groups (set|up and clean|up, supply retrieval)Supervision of patient individual exercise programsActive participation in therapy groups and special eventsUse of patient and therapy equipmentEnsuring that patients have their recommended adaptive equipment available and coaching them in its useReporting lack of and|or missing equipment and supplies to appropriate personnelTakes patient vital signsPatient feeding (set up, checking diet, accurately recording intake and output, feeding patients when necessary, supervision)Assists in patient supervision to ensure safetyResponsible for communicating with nursing and therapy staff regarding patient careDocuments in electronic medical record as neededPerforms all duties with a customer service focus while recognizing and respecting cultural differencesResponsible for taking inventory, stocking and organizing therapy and nursing supplies|equipment and notifying manager|supervisor of any needsAssists with laundry, makes patient beds and organizes bedsideMaintain equipment calibration logsPractices infection control procedures in changing suction canisters and cleaning of equipment and toys using hospital approved disinfectant. Complete infection control log as necessaryAssists with clerical duties as needed (i.e. answering phones, copying, hanging scheduling)Assists with orientation of new staff and volunteersContinual contact with patients, families, visitors and all hospital departments and staffContact with medications, chemicals and equipment
