Job Overview:

Oversees clinical and equipment related day-to-day operations of Respiratory Therapy Department. Provides support for clinical practice at point of care. Role model for patient care practices through direct patient care as well as serving as a preceptor to new employees.

Qualifications:

Required:

Graduate from an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program Bachelor s Degree in Science or Respiratory TherapyRegistered Respiratory Therapist from the National Board of Respiratory CareNJ State Respiratory License AHA BLS Provider Certification

Certifications and Licenses Required:

NJ State Respiratory License AHA BLS Provider Certification

Scheduling Requirements:

Full Time 40 hours/weekOn-call 24/7 (Monday through Friday 7a-7p)

Essential Functions:

Provides direct patient care 50-75% of time workedOversees staff schedules, including time off requests|coverageFacilitates maintenance of relevant dept. manuals and education records. Identifies need for and promotes policies related to patient careHelps to research best practice and implement changes to service deliveryConsults with members of the healthcare team on respiratory therapy procedures required to meet the physiological needs of the patientsSupervises and assists therapists|nursing in the transport of critically ill patientsReviews and monitors staff documentation of patient care in the electronic medical recordFacilitates ordering, maintenance, and repair of respiratory related supplies|equipmentOversees laboratory services to ensure adherence to regulatory standardsCompletes payroll in a timely fashionReports to the department manager regarding departmental issues. Serves as a link between manager and dept. staffCoordinate other responsibilities as designated appropriate by the DirectorActs as liaison with administration and medical staff re: issues related to patient careHandles customer service or personnel issues related to patient carePerforms technical correlation for the iSTAT and glucose point of care testing as assignedPerforms CAP proficiency testing as assignedAssists with in-servicing of new clinical staff and competency of waived testing as assignedAssists with training of new clinical staff (respiratory care practitioners, therapists, nurses) on respiratory aspects of care as assignedAssists with coordination of durable medical equipment for patient families prior to discharge as assignedAssists patients, families and vendors with durable medical equipment needs as assignedCommunicates information and updates related to durable medical equipment to key steak holdersProvides education to patients and families regarding DME equipment and all respiratory care modalities as assignedAssists with compliance with Joint Commission and CLIA requirements as assignedAssists with interview and hiring of new staffResponsible for assisting with orientation of new staff to dept. and hospital procedures in collaboration with the department educatorProvides clinical supervision to staff and assists with annual review process for dept. staffAssists with development|monitoring of competencies and the training of staff in collaboration with department educator and preceptorsAssists with identification and implementation of clinical performance improvement include tracheostomy changesActs as a mentor to all clinical staff. Ensures excellence in delivery of patient care and achievement of patient outcomesAssists in coordinating student clinical experience as needed. Coordinates dept. in-service|training in collaboration with department educatorFacilitates staff clinical assignments with adjustments as needed based on patient acuity and census. Responsible for all Respiratory Therapists at assigned work location

Physical Demands:

Able to lift and carry equipment and patients greater than 15 pounds or greaterPotential for blood and body fluid splashes and exposuresOn feet most of the day; bending, walking, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling
